THE WHOLE MAP

INVESTING IS

Most people name one piece. There are six.

The companion page for the Whole Map short. Every line below is verbatim from the approved script.

The six pieces

PIECE ONE

Risk and return

The gain and the pain ship in the same box.

PIECE TWO

Compounding

Returns earning their own returns, until time outworks money.

PIECE THREE

Diversification

Spread it out, so one bad day cannot decide everything.

PIECE FOUR

Valuation

Price is what they ask. Value is what you get. Rarely the same number.

PIECE FIVE

Asset allocation

How you split the money beats any single pick.

PIECE SIX

Time horizon

The longer it can stay, the more storms it survives.

Six pieces. That is the whole map. Everything else is a detail.

How to read this map
  • Each piece is a question to answer before a buy, not a product to purchase.
  • Risk and return: what pain comes with this gain?
  • Compounding: how long can this keep earning on its own earnings?
  • Diversification: if this one goes wrong, what else is standing?
  • Valuation: what is being asked, and what is actually being got?
  • Asset allocation: how is the money split, before any single pick is made?
  • Time horizon: how long can this stay in place?
What this does not prove

A map is orientation, not a return promise. Naming the six pieces does not pick anyone’s investments, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security.
